FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

For emergencies, appointments are not required to see a veterinarian; though, a call ahead is appreciated so we can prepare for your arrival. To visit with a specialist, you can make an appointment by calling 631-369-4513. Your primary veterinarian can also submit a referral for you through our website, though this is not a requirement. We always work in conjunction with your family veterinarian to provide your pet with the very best of care.

The following should be brought to every appointment:

  • Copies of pertinent medical records
  • Current medications
  • Lab reports

We also encourage you to bring your pet’s favorite toy and/or treats to your appointment so that he or she can have an enjoyable and relaxing experience at our hospital.

The required deposit for all patients admitted to our hospital is the low-end of an estimate. Payment in full is required prior to your pet leaving our hospital. We know that medical costs can be stressful, so we accept all of the following forms of payment: cash, American Express, MasterCard, Visa, Discover, and CareCredit. We also accept most forms of pet insurance and encourage everyone to sign their pet up with a policy if they have not already. If you have any questions about pet insurance, we can assist you in processing your claims or suggest a recommended company. For further questions regarding payment, call us at 631-369-4513.

East End Veterinary Center is eastern Suffolk County’s only emergency veterinary hospital open 24/7, 365 days a year, including holidays. We are always here for questions and concerns—at East End, your pet is never alone.

For initial consultations, your pet can eat or drink as normal; these appointments are just evaluations to determine a treatment plan. If your pet is coming for a procedure that requires sedation, your veterinarian may ask you to skip mealtime the morning of the appointment; however, water is always fine. You will be given a call prior to any procedure to discuss pre and post-operative instructions.  If in doubt, please call our office at 631-369-4513

We have veterinarians on duty 24/7 to evaluate our inpatient pets and provide you with daily phone updates. We are also always available should you wish to call in with a question or update—this is the beauty of being open 24/7! Please call us at 631-369-4513 with any concerns or to speak with a staff member about your pet. We do ask that you limit check in calls to 3 times a day per pet so that all patients can receive the necessary time and attention that they deserve from our staff.

As pet owners and animal lovers ourselves, we recognize and appreciate the role our pets play in our lives. We encourage visitation not only due to its positive effect pets and their owners, but also since we are proud of the quality of care we administer and we would like for you, the owner to witness it and to go home knowing that your beloved pet is in good, caring hands. Due to emergencies and the unpredictable nature of veterinary medicine, we cannot set a regular visitation schedule. While the client waiting area may look vacant at times, pets are being cared for in our ICU constantly. If you wish to visit with your pet, please call prior to your arrival to ensure that a staff member is available to accompany you. Once you arrive,  we will do all that we can to accommodate you as soon as possible. Visitation is limited to 2 family members at a time and up to 15 minutes per visit so that stress and stimulation can be limited during this sensitive time of recovery. Visitation of children under the age of 10 is discouraged; yet, can be arranged upon special request.

Prescriptions can be picked up at our office, your primary veterinarian’s office, or from a local pharmacy. While some medications must be picked up at a veterinary source, many can be obtained at your favorite pharmacy, so please feel free to price shop. We ask that if you choose to pick up your prescriptions at East End, you give us 48-hour notice so that we can obtain the proper medication for you in a timely manner. You can also utilize our Online Pharmacy for hundreds of guaranteed products, exclusive savings, and deliveries right to your door.

As a specialty hospital, most appointments are made after a referral from your family veterinarian; he or she will be the best guide to determine the specialist that your pet needs to see. If you do not have a family veterinarian in the area or your pet is experiencing an emergency, please call us at 631-369-4513 or stop in for medical assistance. Our experienced staff will be able to offer guidance on next steps in a timely manner based on your pet’s symptoms and medical history.
