Emergency

Dr. Ellen Gunzel graduated from Cornell College of Veterinary Medicine in May of 2020. After graduation, she completed intensive ER training at the Veterinary Referral Center in Malvern, PA, for four months through their Catalyst Program. During veterinary school, Dr. Gunzel worked extensively with the cardiology department. She has also completed research in anesthesia both at Cornell and abroad. Her love for emergency began while working at the sole emergency clinic in Phnom Penh, Cambodia during vet school. Before vet school, she studied neuroscience and physics at Smith College and subsequently did neuropharmacological research in Manhattan for three years.

Dr. Gunzel has published several scientific papers and enjoys research, with hopes of incorporating research into emergency practice to help advance veterinary medicine. Some of Dr. Gunzel’s other special interests include wound care, internal medicine, infectious disease, and preserving the human-animal bond. When not at work, Dr. Gunzel enjoys going for runs with her rescued Mexican street dog, Canelo, appreciating wine, and learning new languages.
